The CalCAPA Education, Legislative, and Advocacy Committee (ELAC) chaired by Maria Elena De La Garza, Executive Director of Community Action Board of Santa Cruz County, has been working diligently to create an advocacy plan for CalCAPA in 2020. In addition to the annual Legislative Day hosted in Sacramento, CalCAPA will be working with K Street Consulting to educate Community Action leaders on how to advocate effectively in their local community and at the capitol. K Street Consulting, in partnership with the ELAC, has created a draft of priority advocacy action for 2020:
- Work through the Senate Human Services Committee and Assembly Health and Human Services Committee to pursue and support 2020 legislation
- Work through Latinx, Black, Asian and Women’s legislative caucuses to pursue and support 2020 legislation
- Support existing two-year bills
- Identify key lawmakers to support in 2020
- Host a successful Lobby Day in Spring 2020
- Empower Community Action Agencies to engage in in-district meetings
- Support energy colleagues
- Support Census 2020
